Gold Tops State Track Honors for Comal ISD

May 15, 2024 - Smithson Valley High School senior Ella Pickron brought home the 5A State pole vault title to cap off her career as a Ranger on May 3 in Austin, but that’s not the only hardware Comal ISD track and field athletes brought back from state meets.

Pickron, who is heading to Colorado State, cleared 13 feet, 0 inches to win gold and helped the SVHS girls team earn third place in the state. Fellow senior Jazmyn Singh won bronze in the 400-meter race, and the 4x400-meter relay won bronze with Avianna Miller, Mia Perez, Singh and Izabella Sutherland.

In addition, SVHS Coach Bren Jones was named the Girls State and Sectional Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Continuing in 5A competition, Pieper High School junior Caroline Peterson won the silver medal in girls high jump after clearing 5-7. This is her third medal in the event in three years, winning the silver last year, and the gold in 4A competition as a freshman.

In 4A, Canyon Lake High School senior Cadence Patterson won the silver medal in the 3200-meter race with a time of 10:47.65, ending her high school career with her first state medal. She finished fourth in the 1600-meter race.
