Two Comal ISD high schools celebrated National College Decision Day Friday, May 3, with special ceremonies honoring graduating seniors who are furthering their education after they walk the stage in early June.
Both Memorial Early College High School and Canyon Lake High School hosted a Decision Day event complete with balloons, posters, college pennants and gear, caps and gowns and more, with proud parents, teachers and administrators joining in the celebration.
MECHS will be graduating 76 seniors, and 99 percent of them will be receiving an associate’s degree from St. Philip’s College in San Antonio on Friday, May 10, at the Freeman Coliseum.
This graduating class has set records for the school including the amount of scholarship money received, totaling $1.9 million. Additionally, 71 percent of this year’s senior class has been accepted and will attend a four-year university. The national average of graduating seniors who will attend a four-year university is 46 percent.
CLHS will be graduating 204 seniors this year. Donning their green caps and gowns, the soon-to-be graduates were treated to a parade in their honor lead by the CLHS Hawks Drum line. Among those watching and cheering were fellow students, teachers and parents.
The senior Hawks also signed a banner, took a group photo and gathered in the Performing Arts Center for a special assembly featuring Comal ISD Board of Trustee Secretary Jason York.
While some students from both MECHS and CLHS will further their education by attending a college or university, others have decided to enlist in the military, take a mission trip, and/or go into the workforce.
Between the two schools, MECHS and CLHS, here are just a handful of colleges and universities seniors will be attending in the fall: Baylor University, Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, University of North Texas, Texas Tech University, Texas State University, Abilene Christian University, University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas Lutheran University.
Congratulations to each of our MECHS and CLHS seniors!
