More students are taking career and technical education classes these days, and one class in particular has become popular - floral design.

The Comal ISD Board of Trustees approved a bond package that will accommodate continued enrollment growth as well as address items such as campus safety and security, student technology, and expansions and improvements at existing campuses during a meeting on Feb. 15.

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) month and the perfect time to highlight a few of the CTE programs offered at Comal ISD high schools. The spotlight today is on the health sciences program which allows students to gain experience and earn certifications in the healthcare field.

The last home game of the season will be about more than just basketball for the Pieper High School Warriors who are hosting a Coaches vs. Cancer fund-raising campaign on Friday, Feb. 10, in support of a fellow classmate who is battling a cancer diagnosis.

A local non-profit organization, Contractors Helping Kids, has stepped up to help high school seniors graduate with the proper attire - a new cap, gown and stole.

A Smithson Valley High School student's audio-essay is the among the top 10 in the state of Texas. He used his skills in public speaking to enter the annual VFW Voice of Democracy contest and won a $4,000 scholarship.

The February round of national high school signing events wrapped up for Comal ISD with 13 Smithson Valley High School student athletes taking the next step in their athletic careers. This brought the total number of signees for the district to 42 over a four-day period.

While Davenport High School celebrated eight student athletes with a National Signing Day celebration, two additional athletes from Canyon High and Canyon Lake High School also signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level recently.

English teacher Jennifer Fey was surprised when students and teachers at Hill Country College Preparatory High School lined the hall to celebrate her as the KENS 5 EXCEL award winner for Comal ISD.

The New Braunfels Art League named a Comal ISD teacher as its 2022 Artist of the Year. Nell Anderson is an art teacher at Canyon Lake High School and hopes to use the honor to motivate her students to never stop pursuing their passions.
